This is a series of 4 chairs drawn by children. With this project, I want to take children seriously in order to learn how to step out of a designer's comfort zone. I want the expression and the emotion in the design to become the new function. I hope I succeeded, and that you give it a smile.
In my BA project, I have been inspired by how Antoine de Saint-Exupéry takes children seriously in the book The Little Prince. In the book, a fox talks about the people on earth “Men have no more time to understand anything. They buy things already made at the shops. But there is no shop anywhere where one can buy friendship, and so men have no friends anymore. If you want a friend, tame me." The message is simple - we can buy things to own, but we cannot buy the connections and relationships to those things. In our modern world, we are stuck in a loop where we constantly redecorate and trade furniture for the latest trends, and I believe this gives us nothing more than a short-term change if we do not build an emotional connection to it. I believe designers can learn a lot from children about how to create curiosity, fascination and emotions through our objects, and I think it can help us to connect closer to the things we own.
