Restaurant/café at the old munch museum, Tøyen Oslo

This school project was focused on giving new use to the old Munch Museum. My proposal was a community center/cultural center with courses in visual art and graphic design. The center would also include a restaurant/café and an event room.

I focused on the vestibule and main inner courtyard and designed the restaurant/cafe and the event room. The design is inspired by the museum's surroundings (Tøyen Park) and integrates the existing materials on the glass pavilion of the building, which I decided to remove. The old pavilion columns have been turned into artificial trees with colored glass roofs that create a joyful transition from both the Tøyen Park and the botanical garden to the cultural center. The artificial trees extend into the inner courtyard. The cafe counter and the floor are inspired by the colors of the paintings of Munch, Le Corbusier, and modernist Japanese architecture, and are linked to the structuralist architecture of the main building.
