It is the first school year, the child’s year. The child starts school full of enthusiasm and desire to learn, and with many expectations. School is about taking a leap, jumping into something new and different. The challenge is to preserve the child’s joy and desire to learn. Imagine the curiosity of a child, the free flow of thought, the openness, and the wonder of why the world is the way it is? When children play and explore, they learn to separate things from each other. They find out how the world is connected, how it is built and function, and what their little bodies are capable of.
In my bachelor’s degree, I want to integrate more play into today’s curriculum, give the 6-year old’s a smoother transition from kindergarten to school by giving them a practical alternative to sedentary blackboard teaching.
