Nips Utstilling (fra fransk: nippes 'pynt, stas)
How will the design of the individual objects be able to reflect different epochs and headings and how will this affect their meaning and interpretation? In what ways do today's trinkets differ from their historical origins and what values do we attach to such objects now? Here you get everything from criticism, irony, and excitement.
In the last 6 weeks, we have explored what nips are and can be. We have produced 15 Nips each, based on 5 different eras:
-Applied art
-Crafts
-Art industry
-Scandinavian design
-Postmodernism
The result is a combination of trinkets, furniture, and sculpture that addresses Themes and expressions linked to the eras. How will the design of the individual objects be able to reflect different epochs and headings and how will this affect their meaning and interpretation? In what ways do today's trinkets differ from their historical origins and what values do we attach to such objects now? Here you get everything from criticism, irony, and excitement.
The purpose is to undress/clothe the meaningless with meaning and content. Said will be artistically and design-conscious. It produces far too much meaningless decoration that is only about creating pleasure and where the purpose is to signal status. Where is the line between decorative objects made by designers and sculptural objects produced by artists? Acting said about more than just
unique vs mass production? Is design-created trinkets a flattening of art
The exhibition will take place in the area in front of the reception at the Oslo Academy of the Arts
